Happy Monday and here is your wakeup call! You are not going to like this. I have been listening to the same line from my clients for the past 5 months now, “That diet doesn’t work, I tried it already.” With that I reply, “And how many diets have you tried?” I am yet to hear any number lower than 5. The only constant in this diet situation is YOU!
Have you ever heard the definition of insanity? It is repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. Your diet and maintenance lifestyle cannot change until you change your mindset. The thing is, you need to be ready. The switch in your brain needs to turn on.
Take out a pen and paper. Write down the reasons you want to change your diet. Are any of the reasons, 1. I don’t like the way I look? 2. I don’t like the way I feel? 3. I hate taking pictures and I strategically place myself to hide my body? 4. Clothes shopping depresses me, I rather buy shoes and pocketbooks? Does this sound anything like you?
Now let me ask you this, “What are the changes you need to make to get yourself to a happy place?” Do you, 1. Need the support of your family or a professional to keep you accountable? 2. Have to cut back on the alcohol consumption? 3. Stop going out for meals so often? 4. Make wiser choices when choosing what to put in your body? 5. Consistently going to the gym?
Are you willing to make these changes? I know you think you are, but in all seriousness, are you? I don’t mean you will be good for three days and then blow it to bits because you have a special night out planned. Good for a few days again and then, BOOM! Off to shit with yourself again. That pattern does NOT work! It hasn’t worked for you in the past and it won’t work this time. I don’t care what diet you decide to try.
How about all that alcohol you drink? Or, the dessert you enjoy? Are you willing to give that up for a while until you achieve your goal? No? How about cutting yourself off after 1 or 2 and maybe only on Saturday? Indulging in a dessert with a bite or 2 and again, only once a week? What is more important to you, your health or that indulgence? If the answer was not my health, you are not ready.
How about getting your heart going? I am not telling you to spend hours in the gym. You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on a gym membership either. YouTube offers thousands of videos for free! You can go for a walk or even a few trips up and down your stairs. All you need is 3-5 times a week and 30 minutes a day. Would you be willing to implement this into your daily activities?
Now the diet. What have you tried and liked? There must be something that has peaked your interest and you can see yourself succeeding with it. Are you willing to research it so you know what you are getting yourself into? Have you gone on Facebook and joined support groups for that specific way of life? Do you need a professional to help you out and hold you accountable?
How many times are you going to go on the diet roller coaster before you finally decide this is the time? Honestly, there is never a good time to diet. There will always be a holiday, birthday dinner, date night or family gathering you want/need to be at. It is about you deciding none of that matters and it is time for you to stop your bullshit and excuses. Haven’t you had enough of listening to yourself make excuses?
Excuses do not achieve results. Action does. The bottom line here is, decide if you want to be who you are and change nothing or actually start doing something? Any diet will work if you follow it and will be happy with it as a lifestyle after you achieve your results. That is the key, you will need to decide if the diet you choose is actually a way of life you can see yourself doing forever. Like I said in the title, “It’s not the diet, it’s YOU!!!”
