Holiday Accountability

It is that time of the year again.  Holiday Time!  Let the food comas begin, lol!  Thanksgiving usually starts off the downward spiral.  It is the first day of, “It’s the holidays, this one day won’t kill me”.  Often this is the beginning of the end.

Throughout the year I work with my clients on a weekly basis adjusting meal plans.  Most weeks look similar, but there are variations when they have an event.  For those times, we work on maintaining weight that week while incorporating in a few indulgences.  This is very difficult during the holidays.  You must meal plan!

If you have never planned your week out before, now is the time to get started.  Maintaining your current weight will be very difficult with all the celebrating this month if you do not.  Accountability is the number one method for success.  Seeing everything in black and white makes a huge difference since we generally do not lie to ourselves.

I am going to give away my biggest accountability secrets now for the holiday season!

  1.  Print out a December calendar
  2. Add all your events
  3. Highlight events by most indulgent to least.  ie.., drinking events/pink, dinner party/green, casual/yellow, etc…
  4. Make a sample menu of what you think you will be eating and drinking on those days and calculate all the macros.
  5. If that number is more than 20% higher than a normal day, do your best to adjust it.
  6. The rest of the days stick diligently to your macros and add in some extra exercise.
  7. Avoid sweets!!!!  They are usually a trigger for more even if they fit into your macros.
  8. After week 1 weigh yourself and see how it went.  Are you happy?  Did you maintain?  Gain? Lose?
  9. Adjust week 2 if need be and follow all the same rules the rest of the month.

Having everything written down is the best way to stay on track.  Setting yourself up for indulgences is the journey to success.  There are many different apps for tracking.  Personally, I like Carb Manager for keto and My Fitness Pal for all other lifestyles.

Remember not to deprive yourself, but don’t go overboard either.  Do not punish yourself if you slip up.  Forgive yourself and move on.  Don’t wait until the next day!

Another great idea is signing up for one of those workout challenges all over social media.  They are usually filled with like-minded people and everyone holds each other accountable.
